Brie Cheese
This cheese originates from Brie in France (now the region
of Seine-et-Marne, south of Paris) and is known throughout
the world as the "King of Cheeses"! Brie is a soft
cheese made from whole or semi- skimmed cow's milk which is
aged for a minimum of four weeks and which continues to mature
until it is cut.
Many different countries across the world make this popular
cheese but the French variety is considered to be the best
and is rich and full in flavor. Brie made in other countries
has a milder creamier taste.
Brie has a white edible rind which is often tinged with brown.
The center is a pearly pale cream and should be soft and springy
to the touch. At its full ripeness- when it tastes the best-
Brie should be firm if pressed and neither hard nor liquid.
This cheese tastes best when left to warm at room temperature
at which point it will ooze when sliced. Serve with fruit
or meat or as a delicious and stylish fondue. A baked Brie
will add elegance to any dinner party and tastes even better
when coupled with a glass of champagne. |
